Service & Repair

We can service and repair most types of wood-burning stoves even if they were purchased elsewhere.

Beat the cost of heating your home this winter

The price of heating your home is starting to get extremely expensive with the government’s promises that they will freeze energy prices seem to get pushed back every year.

However, by burning wood instead, you are freeing yourself (partly at least) from the clutches of energy providers. Granted, you do then have to deal with price fluctuations of firewood suppliers, but any increases there are likely to be less severe than gas and electricity price hikes.

Frequently Ask Questions

Wood burners can cut a home's heating bill by 10 percent, according to the Energy Saving Trust. Running costs for an average household are a third of electric heating bills and 13pc less than gas central heating, according to the Stove Industry Alliance.

The technology and materials used to make stoves has come a long way, and they’re nowhere near as polluting as they once were, and even less so than an open fire.

By 2022, all wood burning stoves must comply with the Ecodesign European directive in a bid to tackle air pollution and particulate emissions. Many stove manufacturers are beating the directive to the punch and producing Ecodesign Ready stoves that actually exceed the directive by as much as 75%.

Wood is a renewable source and is actually kinder to the environment than using gas or electricity. Wood burning can produce as little as 0.008kg of CO2 per kWh compared to 0.198kg for gas and 0.517kg for electricity.

Not only are wood stoves becoming more eco-friendly, they’re also become more efficient. This means that more heat is used to heat your home rather than being expelled up the chimney.

Some burning stoves have an efficiency of exceeding 80%, which means that you’re not losing much heat at all – only 20% is being lost through the chimney and the rest goes into heating your home.

Older stoves generally have lower efficiency ratings, to ensure you’re getting more heat into your home, a new stove may be a wise move. Not only is a more efficient stove better for your wallet as you’re spending less on fuel, but it’s also better for the environment.

Our advice to anyone who buys a wood burner is always that you get it installed by a professional installer. Luckily, it’s really easy to find one thanks to HETAS, which is a government approved organisation that, amongst other things, keeps a list of registered installers.

These HETAS stove installers are trained and approved to UKAS (UK’s National Accreditation Body) standards and they can demonstrate that the work they do is compliant with any relevant building regulations. In short, they are the most qualified people to install your wood burning stove.

Fife Stoves are HETAS registered.
